Skeumorphic Design Trend

By using visual elements that remind observers of real life objects, skeuomorphism aims to create a sense of familiarity and association. This concept has been frequently used in GUI and web design, e.g. the icon used on most smartphones’ display to represent the phone function.

There has been a strong debate over the merits of extensive use of skeuomorphic designs. It is argued that skeuomorphic interfaces lack creativity, hence a potential hinder for providing more efficient ways of performing tasks.
