Water-Themed Backgrounds in Web Design
Analysis & Showcase:
Having a deep symbolic meaning, water is of the most used themes in landscape design. It can also be used as a functional feature on a website. For instance underwater scenery can unnoticeably lure the visitors to scroll down and explore the website. In my opinion, design styles utilizing water-themed backgrounds as the focal point are deserved to be treated as a separate web design trend. In the previous article, we discussed the category of Nature-inspired Background style. Water-themed backgrounds apparently belong to this category as well. However, because of water’s blue colored look which results in a special natural feeling to website designs, I treat it individually. Furthermore, being the most abundant compound on our planet’s surface (70 %), it is a very popular design element and there are so many astonishing water-themed styles out there that make this design trend really deserving of a separate coverage.
Images of bodies of water in all their varied magnificence are an effective mean to easily arouse a range of positive feelings among the visitors. Businesses and organizations whose products or services are directly (or indirectly) related to water or ocean use aquatic background in their website. Among them, are pool and aquarium sites. The color blue is a popular choice for designers. It is associated with trust, calmness, depth and firmness. So not only those businesses who are directly involved with water activities or products use water and blue color backgrounds in their websites, but a lot of other companies incorporate some shade of blue and water images into their sites and brand images as well.
There are different methods of applying water-themed backgrounds. It can be a an unbelievable photo manipulation or exhilarating pictures of marine life, or an image of an impenetrable and mysterious underwater world (taken by scuba diver). It can even simply be a single shot of a seascape. All depends on the organization’s activity, products or services which are related to water. The final goal is to effectively present the company's nameplate or tagline on the website. These websites are basically based on a vertical scrolling that delectably deepens the visitors into magnificent sea depths.
